Donna, Nick, and Mort
Donna, Nick, and Mort

Excerpt from Striking Through the Masks
P. 380

In the end, each of us recounted those aspects of the other’s behavior that most annoyed him, and after we had finished, we embraced and pledged to take one another’s concerns seriously and mend our relationship. We have been the best of friends ever since. The conversation affected me in many ways, and I think of it often. Whenever I do, it is always with
admiration for Nick’s courage in coming to me with his concerns and making me aware of my failings. at the same time, I also think, not inconsequentially, of a similar conversation I had with Jana that I will talk about in future pages. all in all, my children have taught me a lot about myself.
