Since Elizabeth started with the Chicago Quarterly Review in 2003, the journal has published the work of writers Elizabeth Crane, Deni Y. Bechard, Molly Giles, Janet Freeman, Robert Kerwin, Micah Perks, Andrew X. Pham, Elizabeth Robinson, Vito Victor, Ken Weisner, Paul A. Williams, John Chandler, Roberta Montgomery, Ifti Masim, Lynn Martin, Timothy Crandle, Brent Weinbach, Randy Splitter, Peter Sheehy, Kat Meads, Pete Shanks, Richard Huffman, Jane Adams Hull House After School Matters, Kathryn Kefauver, Jim Kudrick, Vanessa Hemingway, Sandy Tanaka, Les White, Robert McClure Smith, Olga Domchenko, John Blades, James Stacey, and many more.

Translations are a special interest of the magazine. Adriano Spatola, Najm Mosain Syed, Ryuta Imafuku, Edoardo Sanguineti, and Camillo Sbarbaro are among the writers whose translated work has appeared in the CQR.
